Developing an Advanced Analytics Formula to Determine Title Uniqueness.Alvin Stockdale & Mike Davidson, National Library of Medicine

The international cataloging standard, Resource Description and Access (RDA), requires a unique access point for every title. The Alma title field searches 38 MARC fields and over 100 subfields, so determining if your title uniqueness can be difficult in Alma when your title is only a few words long. This presentation will show how we created an advanced formula in Alma Analytics that normalizes the MARC 245 field, removes initial articles, and only returns the subfields in the 245 field that determine title uniqueness ($a, $n, $p). We will also introduce the audience to several tools for building advanced Analytics formulas, and discuss our strategies for finding solutions. Finally, we will show why the out-of-the-box Analytics field Title (Normalized) is not suitable to determine title uniqueness. Our tool allows catalogers to do a single search that finds all possible title conflicts and shows them what title qualifiers are already used.

7 Principles for Assessing the Long-term Sustainability and Durability of Your Digital Preservation Program. Sherry Fiust and Michael Hope, Preservica (Gold Sponsor).

Digital Preservation is by its very nature a long-term venture. Digital Preservation practices, programs, and services for the long term need careful consideration.
This webinar will explore a new Sustainability Charter designed to assess the long-term sustainability and durability of digital preservation programs that has been independently reviewed and ratified by a working group of major institutions and industry professionals from around the globe. The Charter incorporates 7 Sustainability Principles that go beyond product functionality to encompass broader long-term sustainability dependencies such as how customer data is managed, good corporate governance, and the environmental impact.

Data Dictionary Analytics Community of Practice (CoP)/Ex Libris Project Update, Davin Pate, University of Texas-Dallas, Rafi Gabbay, Clarivate.

In 2021, the Analytics CoP wrote the Inconsistent Measure and Facet Irregularities report that led to a joint project between Ex Libris and the Analytic CoP to fix many of the “inconsistent measures” found within analytics. This project showed the ever-growing need for a more robust analytic data dictionary for both the library community and Ex Libris. This presentation will review the history that led up to the request for a data dictionary and give the latest updates on the project.
