Writing and Designing a User-Friendly “Interested in” Letter. Bridgett Bonar, Dartmouth College

Formatting Letters in Alma is so complicated that “improve letter functionality” recently ranked second in the NERS 2022 Alma enhancement vote. Even when we see improvements, understanding how letter elements function and connect will allow us to utilize these letters to their fullest extent.Using the acquisitions “interested in” letter–the letter that is sent to interested users when the library receives requested material–as an example, we will discuss the formulation of Alma letters from the content to the building blocks: such as “labels,” templates, XML, and HTML.This session will demonstrate how to evaluate and manipulate letter elements, including integrating more complex coding, and discuss how we can code these letters to create a smooth user experience for patrons and library staff.

A basic understanding of coding will be helpful in this workshop, but in-depth knowledge is not required.

Rialto in Reality: Implementing Rialto in the Ben-Gurion University Libraries as a Case Study. Valerie KhaskinFelendler, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

In February 2022, Aranne Central Library began implementing Rialto. We were equally excited and apprehensive since Rialto’s potential for streamlining the acquisition process could not be overstated, yet its adoption demanded a fundamental change in the existing practices for both the acquisitions department and the subject librarians. Over the following two months, we collaborated with representatives of the Rialto implementation team, striving to incorporate the new module in terms of the technical aspects and the practical guidelines.

In my presentation I showcase this undertaking, starting with our practices before the launch of Rialto, through the implementation and the testing periods, to the consolidation of a new viable workflow. I present Rialto’s improvements to the acquisitions process and note some areas where the product could still be refined. So far, the purchasing module has become a functional part of the library's operation, reducing or eliminating past inefficiency.

Profile Basics: How to Build and Manage Profiles in Rialto. Diana Snyder & Nathaniel Gray, ProQuest, Part of Clarivate(Platinum Sponsor)

Libraries have used automated plans such as slips, approvals, and DDA for many years, but vendors were the ones to create those plans.  Today, Rialto offers libraries the ability to create and manage automated plans themselves from start to finish. Join this session to learn the fundamentals of creating profiles to fit your library’s needs and goals. Our Content and Workflow Strategies team will walk you through various tips and best practices to build your plans with confidence. This session is ideal for librarians who are newer to Rialto, and those who have profiles and would like to learn management tips and tricks.
